We just completed an 8 night stay at the Downtown Hilton. The location is fantastic, the hotel is great, just needs some updating and a good deep cleaning in the rooms. Our socks were quite dirty from walking around in the room. The bathroom was a bit run down, the layers of paint showed on the doors and the bathroom did not have a fan. Housekeeping did leave bottles of water every few days which was a nice treat. All of the staff we encountered, particularly the bellmen, were very friendly. There is a street/craft fair on Saturday and Sunday just across the street which was a nice surprise. The air conditioning did go out one evening but it was fixed the next day. We called the day it went out but the front desk dismissed our concern. By the next morning they realized there was a problem but fortunately wasn’t out too long. We had a room on the 21st floor facing the water. Great views but it also did face the train station and the horns start going fairly early in the morning. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to ask for a different tower. We had planned on buying snacks/beverages at a big box or convenience store, however, there are none within walking distance. If you do not have a rental car, you may want to take a taxi one day and do some shopping if you are staying for more than a few nights. There are great shops and dining within walking distance. We did not eat in the restaurant on site so I cannot comment on that.
